Mobidia Announces Results from Live Network Test with Tier One European Carrier
Tier One European Live Network Test Reveals Mobidia's Innovative Transport Layer Optimization Increases Network Efficiency by 25 Percent and Complements Existing Optimization Solutions.
Vancouver, BC, January 19, 2010 --(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Today, Mobidia Technology, Inc., an innovative provider of mobile data solutions for increasing efficiency and manageability of networks, announced performance results from recent testing and trialing on a tier-one European network.
According to Mobidia CEO Derek Spratt, the results were impressive. "Mobidia's transport layer optimization solution was able to provide an average of 25 percent increase in efficiency on the tier-one mobile operator's network, during peak loads and times - and within a live network topology with an existing client-based content compression solution already deployed."
Due to the explosion of data usage, mobile operators around the world are looking for new and additive ways to make their networks more efficient to meet the demands of smartphone and connected-laptop subscribers. Despite the availability of existing solutions, such as content compression, transcoding, and caching, operators are still looking for tools and technologies that can provide even greater efficiency. This need has attracted them to Mobidia's innovative transport layer optimization solution, which can be transparently overlaid on existing network topologies with other optimization solutions, to provide additive benefits and more efficiency.
Mobidia's solution makes mobile data networks more efficient by optimizing the transport layer of data sessions and accelerating those sessions. As a result, operators experience the following benefits from Mobidia:
-
First, they are able to decrease or defer their network improvement capital expenditures and still meet the growing demand for data use on their networks;
-
Second, the optimization solution from Mobidia also allows mobile operators to decrease their networks' susceptibility to "brown-outs" due to congestion and traffic spikes;
-
Third, these improvements in network efficiency can be achieved without any negative impact on the subscribers' experience;
-
And finally, the Mobidia solution works with existing optimization solutions that a carrier may already have deployed.
Deployment is also Important
"How our solution is deployed is as important as the benefits that it provides," explains Spratt. "We are able to go into a network with content compression, caching, or even DPI solutions already deployed and provide additional efficiency. Operators value this approach as it allows them to make their networks more efficient while retaining their existing investments in optimization solutions. At the same time, we minimize any disruption to future plans for policy implementations."
Mobidia's solution provides an innovative approach to mobile data network optimization. It does not compress content; create data session "tunnels"; or aggregate sessions. Mobidia's layer-4 optimization is achieved through acceleration of data sessions in a complimentary fashion.
As a result, the solution can be deployed transparently and will interwork with existing server or client-based content compression solutions. It also complements key network elements, such as DPI and policy engines, which are often disrupted by other optimization solutions. The benefits and efficiency that Mobidia is able to provide therefore is truly additive to a mobile operator's existing solutions.
"Increasing network efficiency by 25 percent has a significant impact on both the user experience and the profitability of a network," said Spratt. "And that is the value of our transport layer optimization. We are able to deploy in the latest generation networks and run transparently with other optimization and policy solutions while measurably decreasing network congestion and accelerating the subscribers' experiences."
Mobile operators agree. In 2009, demand for testing and trialing of Mobidia's new solution grew tremendously. In collaboration with mobile operators in Europe, Asia and North America, Mobidia executed more than 14 network lab and field trials, and repeatedly demonstrated the ability of its solution to recover capacity by increasing efficiency on average by 15 to 30 percent during peak loads and hours, and in network topologies with existing optimization solutions.
"While we were a bit surprised, but excited, about the number of urgent requests to trial our technology in 2009, we were able to marshal our resources and facilitate the testing," said Spratt. "We understand that operators prefer to experience our technology on their networks - with their unique topologies and traffic patterns. We were happy to be able to manage all the requests and repeatedly demonstrate our ability to significantly increase network efficiency."
About Mobidia Technology Inc.
Mobidia provides operators with a revolutionary software platform that makes mobile data networks more efficient and more profitable by introducing network-edge intelligence. Leveraging the distributed computing power of millions of connected laptops, netbooks and smartphones, the solution increases network efficiencies and enhances subscriber and service policy solutions with a transport layer platform approach. The solution seamlessly interfaces with other vendors' optimization, traffic management and policy solutions and is fully transparent to both subscribers' services and applications and the network’s existing core elements. This layer-4 transport optimization technology has consistently demonstrated an ability to recover 15 to 30 percent network capacity at peak times on networks across the globe.
